What is VTU SGPA Goal Planner?
Normally you calculate your SGPA after your results are out. The SGPA Goal Planner does the opposite – you tell it the SGPA you want this semester, and it tells you how much you need to score in each subject’s external exam to actually reach your target SGPA.
This is useful right after your internals are finalized. You already know your internal marks, and you’re wondering “what do I need in my externals to score an SGPA of 8.5 this semester?” The planner works this out for every subject at once, instead of you doing the manual calculations subject by subject.
How Does the SGPA Goal Planner Work?
Once you enter your target SGPA and internal marks for every subject, the planner builds a study plan using VTU’s official grading system showing exactly how much you need to score in each external exam to hit that target.
The marks it suggests always follow VTU’s actual rules, so what you see is something you can really score, not just a random number:
- You still need at least 35% in each external exam.
- You still need at least 40% overall (internal + external combined) in each subject.
- Subjects with no external exam, like labs and projects, are not part of the plan since there’s nothing to calculate there – your grade for those is already fixed from your internal marks.
If your target SGPA is too high for your current internal marks, even scoring full marks in every external won’t get you there, the planner tells you straight up. It shows you the highest SGPA you can actually reach and gives you a realistic target to aim for instead.

Step 5: To make changes or adjust the study plan as per your requirement, Drag the slider under any subject to raise or lower the marks for just that subject. The planned SGPA value updates in live as you drag the sliders of any subject.
