What is VTU SGPA?
VTU SGPA stands for Visvesvaraya Technological University (Semester Grade Point Average). Just as CGPA reflects a student’s overall academic performance across all semesters, SGPA represents their performance in a specific semester. It is calculated by taking the weighted average of the grade points earned in all subjects during that semester, considering the respective credit points of each subject. This provides a clear assessment of a student’s academic performance for that particular semester.
How to Calculate VTU SGPA?
The formula to calculate VTU SGPA is:
SGPA = ∑(Ci×Gi) / ∑Ci
where:
- (Ci) = Credits of the ith subject
- (Gi) = Grade points obtained in the ith subject
To calculate SGPA:
- List Subjects and Credits: List all subjects for the semester along with their respective credits.
- Grade Points: Identify the grade points corresponding to the marks obtained in each subject based on the VTU grading system for your particular scheme.
- Multiply: Multiply the credits by the grade points for each subject.
- Sum Up: Sum up the products from the previous step.
- Total Credits: Sum up the total credits for the semester.
- Divide: Divide the total grade points by the total credits.
Example Calculation:
Suppose a student has the following grades and credits in a particular semester:
- Subject 1: 4 credits, 82 marks out of 100 (Grade Point = 9)
- Subject 2: 3 credits, 73 marks out of 100 (Grade Point = 8)
- Subject 3: 2 credits, 62 marks out of 100 (Grade Point = 7)
- Subject 4: 3 credits, 76 marks out of 100 (Grade Point = 8)
The calculation will be:
SGPA = (4×9)+(3×8)+(2×7)+(3×8) / (4+3+2+3) = 8.17 out of 10
